When
looking at music video, they all show lots of different conventions. These
conventions all depend on the genre of the music. This could be from ‘POP Music’
to ‘Heavy Rock’. When looking at ‘Heavy Metal’
music video such as they always seem to
be very low lighting. Heavy Metal video never have a story to them as the
majority of the video if focused on the band (mainly the singer) playing in an abandoned room or warehouse. If a Heavy Metal band were to tell a story in their
video it would be all happy and joyful with bright colours and people smiling.
They will stick to there genre and have people moaping around in black makeup
looking depressed.
The majority of Heavy Metal track at played in minor keys whereas POP Songs are played in major keys. This gives a totally opposite feel to the music.
When
looking at POP Music it has a completely different feel to it than the heavy
metal music videos. POP Music is more joyful and something the audience can enjoy watching over and over again. POP Videos tend to be in natural light
telling a love story of some sort. These videos have a lot more camera angles
and shots as the music is more fast pace so the cuts are made in time with the
beat of the music.
When relating these conventions to my music video i will be mainly aiming towards the pop side of things as the tracks i have been looking at are played in major keys showing a happy vibe. As i have been looking into club tracks adding some of the conventions of a typical pop song could challenge the codes and conventions of a typical club track causing some interesting feedback.
